ProMOS to make own-brand DRAM using Elpida design

ProMOS Technology has announced the company has reached an agreement with Elpida Memory to use the Japan-based vendor's 63nm stack process technology for its own-brand niche DRAM products.
The pair previously struck a foundry deal, under which Elpida would provide ProMOS process technologies while ProMOS allocates capacity for the manufacture of Elpida's standard DRAM chips. ProMOS' monthly output for Elpida's contract orders is set to top 20,000 wafers at the end of 2010.
ProMOS currently runs a 12-inch fab capable of outputting 60,000 wafers a month. Half of the capacity will be allocated to mobile RAM and specialty DRAM chips starting in 2011, the company was quoted in previous reports.
In other news, ProMOS also revealed it is seeking an extension on the repayment of loans totaling about NT$58 billion (US$1.96 billion).
ProMOS reported net losses of NT$7.91 billion for the first three quarters of 2010, showing improvement compared to losses of NT$17.96 billion a year ago.
